THE "HEROES OF THE INDUSTRY" SERIES: PIONEERS






Hi folks, trust your weekend is coming on well.

I guess April is turning out as planned.

As highlighted in the preview for the 2nd-quarter, this month is about celebrating heroes of the interior design industry with spotlights beamed on some of the individuals that paid the price to establish the interior design industry in Nigeria.

In my post today I will be talking about 3  great individuals who dared to take chances to venture into an unknown industry at a time when it made more sense to stay in other established industries πŸ‘‡:

*#1: IFY IGHODALO*

One effective way to identify a hero in an industry is by looking out for the impacts they have on multiple generations of professionals in their industry. 

Mrs. I, as she was called while I interned with Design Options Ltd, a company she co-founded as far back as 1987, has birthed generations of design professionals, and I am privileged to be one of them.

Her over four decades of experience in the interior design industry has placed so much value on not only the industry but also on made- in- Nigeria furniture.

For these and several others reasons time won't permit mentioning, Mrs. I is sure a hero of the interior design industry. 


*#2: MONI FAGBEMI*

An astute interior designer with decades of experience with a degree in Arts and Social Science from the University of Lagos, Mrs. Moni Fagbemi co-founded Design Options Ltd. with her partner Mrs. Ify Ighodalo, with whom she upwardly swinged the trajectory of the value placed on the interior design industry in Nigeria today.

She has been fully engaged in the creation of company’s infrastructure that is now regarded as one of the leading Interior Design companies in the country.

She has attended several creative design courses, seminars and workshops in Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom.country.

Her sense of excellence towards the profession raised the bar for many professionals in the industry today.


*#3: TITI OGUNFERE*

Founder Interior Designers Association of Nigeria (IDAN)

The 21st President of the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designer (IFI), being the first African to attain such status.

She is also the founder of the Essential Media Group, a publishing company that publishes Essential Interior Magazine, one magazine that drew my attention to the world of interior design in Nigeria and also impressed the idea of creative writing in me, with positive impact on the concept of Consult Kenny posts today.

Her audacity for establishing a regulatory body for the industry (IDAN), coupled with the milestone achievement of becoming the president of an international body like IFI has placed the interior design industry in Nigeria on the global map.
