THE "LIFE-AFTER-DEATH (L.A.D)" SERIES 2

RENEW AND RECYCLE!!!

Hi Guys,

Trust you are having a lovely weekend, and I guess September is turning out right.

Having introduced a new series in my last post, I will be taking it further, confident you will be gaining some insights on the subject matter that seek to help you discover means by which you can revive furniture pieces and other items in your space, after their expected lifespan.

The "Life-After-Death" (L.A.D) series offers several value including guidelines that will help your decision on what items to let go or which one to hold back in your space.

Just before I delve into the business of the day, here is a recap of the bottom lines I shared in my last post.

- RENEWABILITY

- ECONOMICS

- FEELINGS

With focus on Renewal, I will be making a case for 3 materials that top the list when it comes to renewability👇🏼

#1: RUBBER

It is proven that used tyres, leathers and films have bendable properties that makes them largely suitable for recycling.

This claim is seen to be true with the show of creativity displayed with the lovely furniture pieces made out of used tyres as seen in this picture.

There are other materials in this category used by artists for art pieces and other objects, hence portraying beauty of all kinds.

So just before you trash those worn out tyres in your garage, it would be a great idea to consider reusing some for outdoor sitting or a meeting table for your home office.

#2: WOOD

Of course wood is a go to material when it comes to renewability.

With a bit of touching up, sanding, and adding new colors, a piece of abandoned woodwork will take up a new life, offering you a whole new product or object that allows the material to live as long as possible, regardless of the original intent.

In the words of Daniel Svahn, who specializes in turning waste furniture into new furniture; "It is not only about how we make things but also what happens to them at the end of their lives. Even if waste and the reuse and upcycling of it becomes the new method of production, we still need to rethink our consumerist ‘wear and tear’ ways and create things we really need and that will last for a really long time. Longevity is key".

I hope you get the point.

#3: BOTTLES

Thinking crafts or lights?

Then opt for waste bottles, you have them in different sizes, shapes and colors.

In creating lovely art pieces that can double as ornaments alongside your furniture pieces, plastic bottle is the best option to get a hold of.

While bottles made from glass is perfect for any craft that's meant for illumination or reflection, due to the see through properties found in glass.

Having touched on renewability, it's however important to note it's not all renewable products or materials that are easy to process. There are materials even in rubber, wood and glass that are referred to as "the problem articles", such as laminated pieces and obsolete furniture typologies.

I hereby recommend you consult an expert on renewable resources in order to avoid complexities on the subject matter.

I definitely can be of help in leading you to one.

While you are at it, remember Consult Kenny is always available to guide you through matters relating to your space.

I'm Kenny, an interior designer and project manager.
