THE "CITY BOY" SERIES 2: ARABNESE!!!
THE
"CITY BOY"
SERIES:
ARABNESE!!!
Hello there,
I guess you are having a wonderful time this weekend. I intend to make it more interesting with my line of thought on The "City Boy" Series, where I take my audience with me into cities I have had the privilege to navigate in the course of my work.
My post today is a gist about people of different nationalities I have met and worked with. While my exposure in this regards cuts across a couple of countries spanning at least 3 continents, permit me to feature just two nationalities this time; EGYPTIANS and MALAYSIANS.
Having thought about a couple of names that would capture both nationals in a single phrase like Egypsians, Malaytians and so on, I eventually settled for a combo that appears more catchy, hence the heading #ARABNESE (now you know π).h
In other to put the context right and avoid any perception of favouritism, I will endeavour to balance this subject from both sides of differences and commonalities between these two clans.
Now, let's go ππ½
#1:
WORK
ETHICS
Word and opposite I should say.
Where an average Egyptian may appear to be a bit laid back on the job in my opinion, the Malaysians I have had a chance to work with are more task driven.
The later wouldn't mind putting a work call through at 2am when the need arise, while the former hardly compromise certain routines and obligations, especially the ones attached to their religion and families.
This is not highlighted with the intention to pitch one nationality against the other, but to help you have a fair understanding of the work-life balance orientation for both worlds.
Keep this difference in mind for future reference.
#2:
HOSPITALITY
Going by my inclination as a Lagosian (born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria π³π¬), my sense of hospitality stands no where close to that of the Egyptians and Malaysians.
With the Malays, a dinner outing is guaranteed at the slightest opportunity. From invites to celebrate a milestone achieved at work every week, to routine Chinese celebrations, or just a hangout on a regular day, all of these makes me wonder if these folks have an allowance for eating out alloted to them from the national budget of their country π
As for the MiαΉ£riyyΕ«n (Egyptian in Arabic), I have had them pick me up at the airport at 2am, and still insist I come with them to get something to eat before retiring to my destination in their city.
I sincerely hope to have such grace extended to me and other hasty Lagosians like myself ππ
#3:
AMBIENCE
There are a few other things the 'Arabnese' share in common, and one of the most glaring to me is their ambience.
You stand a high chance to get a response in the affirmative from both nationality, if you ask questions about smoke, cold temperature and incense in the spaces you may have to share with them.
And one last thing I won't fail to mention is their inclination for SPEED DRIVING π️ ✈️π
Just be prepared for a fast and furious ambience whenever you have an average Egyptian and Malaysian cruising on a ride across the city.
As much as you can, avoid having them on the wheels ππ
