THE "BEAUTY IN THE MESS" SERIES: FLOOR MATTERS!!!

Before I get into today's post, please permit me to dedicate this post to a very loving and amazing uncle and father figure, Mr. Segun Oyenihi who passed into glory in the course of the week 😩.

May his soul rest in peaceπŸ•―οΈπŸ™

Straight to the subject of the day which is about tackling mess on the floor, here are a few ways to effectively manage your floors in order to evoke beauty out of your space πŸ‘‡:

        1

Go Concrete

Embrace simplicity with concrete floors.

As old fashioned as concrete floors may be, they remain incredibly durable and super easy to clean and maintain.

In fact, concrete floors can be surprisingly homey, inviting, and warm, with tendency to evoke beauty even in its rustic state as it ages (as shown in this picture).

And even when you don't like the rustic vibes, there is still an easy way out as concrete floors allow for easy overlay of rugs, carpet and other floor covering materials that can be changed from time to time.

Concrete floors are quite elementary but can be such a beauty to behold after a good wash with a bit of waxing.

        2

Try Zoning

In situations where a section of your floor is more exposed to mess than others (for instance high traffic pathway, play area for kids etc), zoning your floor is one solution to consider.

The concept of floor zoning is a very effective way to identify and creatively isolate vulnerable spots on your floor as spotted in the picture attached to this slide.

One of the easiest way to go about this is to have a different  floor material (that's easy to maintain) laid over an existing floor, a good example will be some square meter of linoleum flooring over an existing ceramic floor tile.

Adopt Maintenance

It's easy to fantasize about the dream floor for your space, but the best route to beauty is to appreciate what you have at hand, as against getting anxious over what is not yet in existence.

It is therefore important you do not forget the place of maintenance in the scheme of things.

So roll up your sleeves, grab the squeegee, hold tight to the mop stick and give that floor a lifeπŸ‘.

It's on this note that I call it a wrap on the Beauty in the mess series, I guess every ideas and insights shared have been helpful. And thanks for your time and attention πŸ™.

Until we meet on the next series in August, remember I'm always available to be engaged on your next project.

I'm Kenny, an interior designer and project manager.
