THE "ALL THINGS BEING EQUAL 3:
LIGHT UP!!!
Happy weekend folks, trust this post meets you well.
Ramadan Kareem to my Muslim audience across the globe, may the blessings of God abide with you 🙏
If you have been following the series for the month, then you will be familiar with these formulas
FLOOR + WALL x CEILING= SPACE
COOKER - √SINK ÷ COOLING⁴= THE KITCHEN TRIANGLE
I have not become a math teacher 😄, these are just formulas I devised in order to unveil equations behind what makes components within your spaces work effectively, as warranted by The "All Things Being Equal" series.
I started out with the SPACE in itself, then moved to the KITCHEN and now I thought to address LIGHTING, as a key component that all spaces cannot do without.
The subject of lighting is quite technical and as such cannot be completely addressed in a single post, however I hope to make this easy for you by adopting a simple yet practical approach to effectively lighting up your space.
Now let's talk about types of light 👇🏼
#1:
AMBIENT LIGHTING
Also known as General Lighting.
This is the light that sets the overall tone and mood of a space, providing a soft, uniform illumination that gets rid of every shadow within your space.
Usually to achieve this, lights are positioned at equal distance from the ceiling into your space.
While this type of lighting is most suitable for living rooms, bedrooms, and dining in a living area, they are non-negotiable for all public and commercial spaces.
#2:
ACCENT
LIGHTING
The primary role of accent lighting is to highlight and emphasize objects, and this is achieved by positioning light fittings directly around the object in question.
Accent lighting is most ideal for features such as artwork, display shelf, fireplace and hallways just to mention a few.
You can call her the drama queen 😀
#3:
TASK
LIGHTING
This is the light you reach out to when it's time to roll up your sleeves and get to work as it provides concentrated light in a particular area to aid in activities such as reading, cooking, or working.
As a rule of thumb, task lighting should be brighter than ambient lighting and focused on the project or task at hand.
So if there will be a formula for lights it will be
πAMBIENT x {ACCENT} x ¢TASK= LIGHT UP
And if you are wondering, who needs a separate light for tasks after installing a general light, then I will take up the task to help you get rid of a general belief 😉, but you would have to reach out to me via this link 👇🏼
