THE "CITY BOY" SERIES 3: JOHNNIE WALKER!!!

THE

"CITY BOY"

SERIES 3:

JOHNNIE

WALKER!!!

Happy weekend peeps,

Trust this post meets you well and happy.

It's The "City Boy" here again hoping to take my audience with me into cities I have had the privilege to navigate in the course of my work.

Shout out to my Egyptian and Malaysian folks who featured in the ARABNESE post last weekend. Do well to have a read if you haven't yet πŸ‘‡

Now let's talk about places;

By nature I love exploring new places, so much so that I sometimes explore parts of a city that would take residents years to cover, in just my first week visiting πŸ™„.

For example some years ago, I got on board the Dubai rail network with the aim to shuffle the Red line and the Green line routes from end to end, all in one day. Crazy you say?, but that's one of the characteristics of a city boy and of course the idea behind the title "Johnnie Walker"πŸ˜ƒ.

From my explorations I have discovered some places I would never forget in a long time, and I would be talking about 3 of them in my post today.

My choices and justifications might fall short of what you expect, but I have no doubt about the insights you would get to glean following through.

So let's get down to business πŸ‘‡

#1:

BANIYAS

SQUARE

One of the busiest stations on the Green line of the Dubai rail network, Baniyas Square is located in the central section of Deira in the historic centre of Dubai.

If you are in Dubai for leisure, you probably wouldn't come across this spot, but if you are "Johnnie Walker" like myself then you wouldn't miss the vibes of young folks (mostly Africans) hanging around this square.

Besides the beautiful metro station, one thing I wouldn't forget about Baniyas square is the pool of talents with electrifying ambitions carried from places where hope was lost to a place with a glimpse of hope.

I remember meeting a young dude who left his struggling restaurant business back home to seek an opportunity to work as a chef, and another well-built fella looking out to work as a bouncer, both in Dubai.

I wish their dreams came through.

#2:

MAADI,

CAIRO

As a project manager and interior designer, there is a sense of efficiency that comes with finding the right place to source for materials and other resources needed on a project.

Finding Maadi was magical, and that's because it's a place that houses a couple of notable construction stores like Mostafa ElSallab, a one-stop shop for building and finishing materials.

Then there is the Egyptian Co. Air Industry Building Development (S.A.E), a massive showroom for marble and other kind of stones.

All of these places triggered some inspiration in me, thus making Maadi an unforgettable place.

I also got to know from research that the world's first solar thermal power station was built in Maadi.

That's amazing!

#3:

KANO,

NIGERIA

There are many underrated cities in Nigeria and in my opinion a large chunk of them falls in the Northern region.

As a Nigerian that has explored about a dozen of cities up north, I have come to realize the potentials for tourism and city development across that region.

Besides Abuja stealing the show as the Federal Capital Territory (F.C.T), there are goldmines in cities like Kaduna, Jigawa, Katsina, Bauchi, Jos and of course Kano.

Kano is my pick for many reasons, some of which includes;

✅ The well planned layout of the city

✅ The architectural style of their buildings

✅ The notable spots; among others.

Insecurity could be a bit of concern in a few places in this region, but I remain optimistic that peace and prosperity will gain its root in every city that's experiencing unrest πŸ™

If I may add, I'm also optimistic about your project ending well. See what I mean hereπŸ‘‡
