THE "SUCCESS STORY" SERIES 2: HEALTH MATTERS!!!
THE
"SUCCESS
STORY"
SERIES 2:
HEALTH
MATTERS!!!
Trust this post meets you well and I guess preparation for the festive season is coming on great.
It's story time and I am pleased to share inspiring stories of exceptional individuals whose visions have birthed projects I am honoured to have been engaged in.
Making a list of who to feature in this series wasn't a difficult task, but streamlining same to a few cases was a tall order. And at this point I would like to appreciate the consent given by the distinguished personalities that will feature in this series.
In the bid to make my selections fair, I opted for a success story in the HEALTH SECTOR, thinking that is a place we all have a common interest.
Fair enough right?
So off we go on the first storyline line about a professor that deserves a resounding ovation ๐ ๐
#1:
PROFESSOR
ADESOJI
ADEMUYIWA
Professor Adesoji Ademuyiwa MBBS (Ib), FWACS (Paed), FMCS (Paed), FACS is a distinguished Paediatric Surgeon and a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons. He obtained his Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (FMCS) in Paediatric Surgery in 2009.
Professor Ademuyiwa has made significant contributions to paediatric surgery, global surgery, and surgical education. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles in reputable national and
international peer-reviewed journals, with more than 10,500 citations.
His research interests span paediatric gastroenterology and colorectal surgery, surgical epidemiology, surgical education, and global
surgery systems strengthening. His scientific contributions include publications in The Lancet, Colorectal Disease, BJS Open, Annals of Surgery, and others.
Professor Ademuyiwa currently works as a Professor of Paediatric Surgery at the University of Lagos and an Honorary Consultant Paediatric Surgeon at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH). He serves as the Hub Lead for the NIHR Global Surgery Unit (GSU) Nigeria Hub and the National Principal Investigator for Wellcome Leap Nigeria.
#2:
THE
SKILL
CENTRE
Now let's talk about the project.
Prof. Ademuyiwa is a unique breed of surgeon and I say so because he always champion visionary projects in the health sector with focus on surgery as a sub-sector.
Our engagement began with a facelift of his personal office in 2020, and soon evolved into laudable projects in a reputable institution like the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).
These includes the set up of the N.I.H.R data centre, the Wellcome Leap Surgical Skill and Simulation Centre, among others.
I should emphasize that the "surgical simulation centre" is where surgeons train medical students how to conduct surgeries virtually. To be sincere, I never knew such places exist in Nigeria until Prof. got me on board this project.
I am forever grateful for this privilege ๐
#3:
BEYOND
THE
PROJECT
Being around Prof. Ademuyiwa made me observe he is intentional about raising others up through life. This is evident in the kind of projects he embarks on as they are largely focused on creating an environment where upcoming talents can thrive.
I also observed his heart for kids when he sponsored the set up of a play area in one of the children's ward in Lagos University Teaching Hospital. A quick project that gave me an opportunity to bond with kids who had health challenges and yet made out time to play. A notable experience that never left me the same.
There are several kind gestures from Prof. Ademuyiwa I wouldn't forget in a long time, one of them is taking a chance on me even after a referral that didn't go too well.
He is one of the most objective personalities I have ever met and I am so grateful for the chance he took on me and my team to execute the surgical simulation centre project.
