"YOUR HABIT AND YOUR SPACE" SERIES 2: STORAGE CONTROL
Hi Peeps,
It's Mothers Day Celebrations this weekend, a heartfelt shout-out to every mom and would-be mom out there. Thanks for showing care always 💅 😘
Celebrating moms brings memories of how my mom used to turn her wardrobe up-side-down almost every weekend, in search of her "missing" Sunday outfit. Anyways her appearance in those outfits made us proud of her, thumbs up mom 🏃😂
Always remember that "habits inhabits in spaces", hence influencing how you live in them. My mission therefore is to guide you on how you can take control of your space for good habits.
I will start out by addressing this matter from the angle of storage, sharing effective storage ideas that will help you eradicate unpleasant habits and replace them with pleasant ones.
Here are some of the thoughts I came up with 👇
#1:
BUY
INTO
DRAWERS
The effect of drawers on maximizing storage is phenomenal, yet I meet folks who would let go of drawers simply for aesthetics.
One advantage you get with drawers is the ability to store in compartments, this helps you reduce the chance of misplacing items every time and solves the problem of disorderliness in your space.
Here are a few suggestions for maximizing drawers 👇
- use higher bottom-to-top depths for items you have many of
- use empty small boxes or dedicated drawer organizers to create smaller compartments for jewelry, belts, and accessories
- avoid having drawers longer than 3ft or 90cm to avoid them falling off their runners
And I should add, beyond kitchen cabinets. adopt drawers as storage solution in unusual places.
#2:
UTILIZE
BASES
Another smart way to maximise storage is to utilise the base of existing furniture pieces.
For instance you will be amazed at the kind of control you have over storage by making the most of the voids you have under your beds and cabinets.
Depending on the height of suspension you can 👇
- create drawers underneath bed frames
- add partioned dividers below suspended cabinets
- or even incorporate a pull-out shoe rack beneath the base of your closet
These are a few out of many ways you can make the best of bases.
#3:
RETHINK
OVERHEADS
I know it's common to have luggage tucked above cabinets, the only challenge with this approach is that you are probably storing up items you will end up disposing.
Like the popular saying; "out of sight is out of mind", what you don't get to see most likely ends up in the thrash can.
There is a much more effective way to overhead storage and that's by taking advantage of empty walls, fitting on them open shelves at eye level points where you see the items frequently and increase their chances of usage.
This is a storage idea you will return to thank me for, the same way you will every time you engage me and my team on your projects.
The journey to that experience begins here 👇
