THE "MORE FOR LESS" SERIES 2: IDEAS
THE
"MORE
FOR LESS"
SERIES 2:
IDEAS!!
Hi there,
Trust this post meets you well and I guess May is turning out great for you.
My first post for the month started out with the introduction of The "More for Less" Series, where I mentioned that I will be segmenting my posts by the nature of needs rather than just generalizing them.
If I were to ask my audience; "what would be the most prevalent need for making the best of your space, besides the need for funds and time?", I can bet the most reoccurring answer would be the need for IDEAS.
An idea is defined as "a concept, thought, or mental image formed in the mind". As simple as this may sound, the stage of ideation is perhaps the most difficult in the entire design process.
From experience I have had folks who gives a designer the liberty to choose on their behalf, only to exclaim "this is not what I wanted!" at the point of delivery 😬.
So we all have an idea, just that they are mostly complicated. How then should we go about them? 👇
#1:
INCUBATE
To be honest, some ideas are not for some spaces.
There is really no point forcing your dream space into your current space, and I say this not to undermine the validity of your dreams.
To incubate is to strike a balance between your present realities and your future ambitions, so for instance , while your current space is unable to accommodate large pieces of furniture for banquet dining, how about having a sizeable frame with picture of kings dining in your palace, adorning one of the walls in your current dining.
Here is a thought worth giving a second thought.
#2:
MOCK
UP
Like the saying; the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
Rather than setting all out and getting stuck, you can embrace the idea of mocking up your space to test a concept, visualize ideas, and gather feedback before final execution.
This can be achieved with the use of design software projecting your ideas as close to reality as possible.
Just be sure to engage professionals for a seamless experience.
#3:
PROTOTYPE
This is the point you create an early, working model of a space to test a concept, run an idea, and gather feedback before reaching a decision to either reproduce, adjust or discontinue.
This is a concept largely adopted by owners of facilities with multiple spaces serving different purposes.
Points of entry like reception, foyer and the likes are most suitable for prototyping, but it's okay if you choose to go contrary.
In conclusion I would say, don't just let ideas linger in your head, get them up and running by adopting the right approach for execution .
It will be a delight helping you out in the process, as the conversation begins here👇
