THE "GETTING TO A YES" SERIES 4: THE EXECUTOR

THE

"GETTING

TO A YES

SERIES 4:

THE

EXECUTOR!!

Hello Folks,

I guess you are doing great and making the best of the rest of the month.

I'm glad to be here on the final lap of a series that got me sharing insights from my experience managing people on projects.

Through the "Getting To A Yes" Series, I have been able to specify the parties you mostly need a yes from in other to succeed on a project. Here is a quick recap to keep you on track 👇

THE SPONSOR; who sees the vision, sets the pace and keeps the project manager on his/her toes.

THE INFLUENCER; not necessarily visible but important as they have the capacity to influence the sponsor.

THE EXECUTOR; those you finally assign the job to administer and maximise resources for a project on your behalf.

While my previous posts addressed the sponsor and the influencer, my final post on this series will beam the spotlight on the EXECUTOR 👇

#1:

WHO

THEY ARE

 (PLOUGHMEN)

These are the folks who get their hands on the plough after receiving a rebound version of the vision from the project sponsor through the lenses of the project manager, consultants, designers etc.

Depending on the structure of the project, the executor usually consists of the contractors, sub-contractors, artisans, suppliers, supervisors, team coordinators and the likes.

Please note that the ploughmen can be many things to you, but one thing they never deserve is to be maltreated.

#2:

WHAT

THEY NEED

 (CLARITY)

Being the last to be engaged, it is easy for executors to be misled as the intended vision for the project may get watered down through the chain of communication, hence the need for clarity.

To get the best of executors it's important you speak the same language, and this is not limited to English, Spanish or any other language known to humans.

Employ instruments like line drawings, B.O.Qs, specification sheets, contract terms etc when engaging executors, as this will help you track progress, address issues and expose grey areas that could result in setbacks for your project

#3:

HOW TO

WORK IT

OUT

(BALANCE)

While it is common for some executors to be self centered, caring less about your interest but more about their gains, it is equally important to note that there are many of these folks who will go the extra mile for your project to succeed.

As much as you can, have measures in place that allows for a balance between firmness and accessibility, and this can be achieved by having:

- a standard operating procedures (S O.Ps) for your projects.

- a team of professionals like team Consult Kenny who helps you put all of these together and ensures the job is done well.
