THE "MAKE IT FIT" SERIES 4:
BALANCE IS KEY!!
I hope you are doing great
It's always a delight connecting with an amazing audience whose feedback and support is second to none. I sincerely appreciate you all π
As I round up The "MAKE IT FIT" series, I hope I have been able to help you identify and understand basic principles that come to play when making things fit within your spaces.
You can use any of the link below if you don't mind referring to my previous posts where I shared insights on the principles of Form/Shape and Proportions π

Now let's round it up with BALANCE
Balance is a principle of interior design that visually stabilizes a space, simply put it is the means by which you ensure that no single element in a space overpowers another in terms of visual weight or dominance.
And here are some great ways to go about it π
#1:
USE
ABSTRACTS
If you have been following my posts on this series you would observe how I have used elements outside of interior design (such as music and food) to make my points clear.
This also describes how the principle of balance work in setting up your space, especially when considering visual appeal.
As much as it's tempting to stick to what we are comfortable with, it's equally important to consider abstracts, and there is no better means to describe this right now other than using the image attached to this slide.
# 2:
ADOPT MULTIPLE FUNCTIONS
Another good means to bringing balance into your space is by introducing other functions besides the primary purpose your space is meant to serve.
For instance having a sitting area for conversations around your work space will help create some form of diversity that strikes a balance between work routine and non-work related activities.
By doing this, you are also pulling attention off the obvious, giving credence to variety which is said to be the spice of life.
This is an effective way to approach the equation of weight when addressing balance in a space.
#3:
DISTRACTION
IS
GOOD
Yes you heard me right.
Distraction can be leveraged for balance just as portrayed in the picture of this dining room where attention is evenly spread between, the window fenestration and the almost oversized chandelier hanging over the dining piece, hence projecting a sense of balance that would not have been achieved but for those distracting elements around the center piece.
Truth be told, creating balance in your space can be somewhat technical and this may require the input of a designer. Howbeit, you won't be wrong asking for help rather than getting entangled in the process.
And help is just a click away π

Here is where I call it quits on The "MAKE IT FIT" Series, thanks for your attention all the way.
I will be launching another interesting series in my next post, please ensure you don't miss out.
