"YOUR HABIT AND YOUR SPACE" SERIES 4: PEOPLE CONTROL

 "YOUR HABIT

AND

YOUR SPACE"

 SERIES 4:

PEOPLE

CONTROL!!

Hi there,

It's good to have your attention again as I wrap up the series titled "Your habits and Your Space", hoping to help you take control of your space to form pleasant habits.

So far I have approached this subject from 2 perspectives:

✔️ Storage control

✔️ Motion control

While these perspectives are valid, it's equally important to have a look at other people's habits, how they affect your space, and what you can do to salvage the situation.

In my years of experience working as an interior designer and project manager, I have come to realise office and commercial spaces come top on the list of tough places to control unpleasant habits, and this is largely so because the parties involved in this case aren't absolutely under your control.

In one instance, a team lead had to read a RIOT ACT to his team members in order to curb silly habits like pasting of chewing gums on workstations, among others.

This action may be applicable in a work environment, but would be quite extreme in a home setup. In view of this, I thought to share some subtle yet effective measures you can adopt as regards people control in your space👇

#1:

NAME

IT

The phrase "ignorance is not an excuse" is valid in the court of law, but doesn't apply in cases like, a first time guest placing his/her feet on your couch or a toddler seeing every wall as an art canvas 😄

This explains why unpermitted habits in a space should be named.

To get this right you have to first engage all the parties involved, asking about their irritations on one end, but also it is important to ask "what habits can be excused?".

I say this because we are all an embodiment of habits, so you need to be clear on what's permissible and what's not.

#2:

PASTE

IT

Now that it's named, ensure that it's seen.

Here are some ways to get what has been named into people's minds.

🚪 Have rules for spaces by the door

🎨 Introduce rules into artworks and ornaments

🖥️ Use screen savers on computers as reminders

Do whatever wherever it works, just be sure to make it appealing and courteous so it sticks.

#3:

THRASH

IT

Truth be told, rules will be broken, what matters is how you manage the defaulter and the situation.

As much as you want your space in order, be sure to also keep your mental health in check.

Talk about it if you need to, but thrash it if it will make you lose your peace or become a monster in the process.

Below are some "people" quotes I would like to end this series with:

🖋️ "People don't change, they just become who they are really meant to be." - J. Marcia Green

🖊️ "Habits are the invisible architecture of everyday life." - Gretchen Rubin

🖋️ "Most people don't like change. They revolt against it unless they can clearly see the advantage it brings." — John C. Maxwell

I hope you find them helpful, thanks for your attention all through the series 🙏

While I'm out to work on the line up of series for the 2nd quarter, do not hesitate to keep in touch on matters relating to your space👇
